Parthenocissus tricuspidata'Veitchii', also known as Virginia creeper, is a vigorous deciduous ornamental climber valued for its rapid growth, its ability to cover large surfaces and the magnificent colour of its foliage in autumn.
It is a self-clinging climber that attaches itself to supports thanks to leaf tendrils fitted with adhesive pads, allowing the plant to cling to walls, façades and a variety of structures without any special support system. Thanks to its vigorous development it easily reaches 10–20 metres in height, growing by around 1–2 metres a year in ideal conditions.
Parthenocissus 'Veitchii' is a healthy, resilient and undemanding variety, able to adapt to a wide range of growing conditions. Its foliage, made up of large palmate leaves in deep dark green through the summer, turns a spectacular bright scarlet red in autumn, a colour that is particularly pronounced in sunny positions where the contrast is even more striking.
Thanks to its covering power and high ornamental value, it is an excellent choice for decorating buildings, walls, façades, fences, pergolas, arches, gazebos and other vertical supports. It can also be used to create natural green cover and living screens in the garden.
Parthenocissus tricuspidata'Veitchii' is a very hardy and easy plant to grow: it prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and fertile, well-drained soil. In particularly harsh winters it may suffer some frost damage, but it generally proves a tough and reliable species.
