WISTERIA - WISTERIA SINENSIS 'AMETHYST' - 8B335-
Shipping from October 2026
Wisteria sinensis 'Amethyst', known as Chinese wisteria, is a magnificent ornamental climber prized for its spectacular flowering, intense fragrance and vigorous growth. This variety stands out for its superb dark purple flowers, considered among the deepest and most intense of all cultivated wisterias, carried in elegant, conical pendulous racemes around 20–25 cm long.
Wisteria 'Amethyst' flowers particularly early: it generally starts from the beginning of May, delivering an explosion of colour and a sweet, long-lasting fragrance that transforms pergolas, arches and garden structures. The leaves are made up of numerous light green leaflets in summer, taking on an attractive yellow tone in autumn and adding further ornamental interest to the plant.
It is a vigorous climber with twining stems that wrap around their supports in a clockwise direction. It grows quickly and can reach around 6 metres in height, adding 1–2 metres a year in favourable conditions. To develop properly it needs solid, sturdy structures such as pergolas, arches, strong trellises or metal supports.
Wisteria sinensis 'Amethyst' prefers sunny positions, where it can give the very best of its abundant flowering.
